SETTING UP YOUR SLEEP ENVIRONMENT FOR SUCCESS

There is nothing as satisfying as a good night of sleep. When you wake up well-rested and ready to roll… boy, that gets a day started. However, we all know that is not always the case. Some struggle to sleep more than others and have tried anything they can, just for an extra hour per night. One thing people often overlook when working on their sleeping habits is that your environment has an impact on how you sleep. Here are a few tips and tricks for optimizing your sleep space for the best night of rest!

 

Ambiance Matters

Have you ever been somewhere and just not enjoyed how the place feels? Whether it is the layout, the colors or maybe it is cluttered… something is just not sitting right with you? Yup. This can be the case in your own bedroom! If you dread spending time in your room, fix it. You won’t be able to relax enough to sleep if you cringe just passing through your room. Find the color scheme that calms you down, rearrange your furniture and clean it up! All these factors can contribute to stress, and impact how well you sleep.

 


 

Lighting

This feels pretty obvious for most of us, but lighting matters. As great as it would be to say, “Oh, I can sleep any time of day. The sun doesn’t bother me!” We are not all built that way. If you have found yourself waking up right as the sun peeks through your window, but are still tired, go grab yourself some blackout curtains! It is ok to need complete darkness.

 


 

Aromatherapy

As much as a smell can run you out of a room, it can also draw you to one or, relax you! Scents like lavender, rose, jasmine, cedar extract, peppermint and rosemary have all shown to help with relaxing and getting a better night of sleep. Find which scent helps you wind down and make it a part of your nightly relaxation routine.

 


 

Drop it Low

The temperature that you are sleeping at can have a major impact on the quality of sleep you get! The recommended temperature for sleep is around 65 degrees. This will vary person-to-person, but it is suggested that you sleep with the air between 60-67 degrees Fahrenheit!

 


 

Invest in Comfort

This one should be a no-brainer. Your mattress, your sheets, pillows and blankets should feel incredible to you. If you have a mattress that you hate, lumpy pillows and a blanket that you don’t want to snuggle up under you are probably going to have a hard time getting comfortable enough to sleep. 

Invest in your recovery time, and help yourself get the rest you deserve.
