The sunny seasons are here! Everyone is itching to get in the sun as much as possible, especially after those long, cloudy winter months. While the sun has incredible benefits for our bodies and brains, it is no secret that it can be damaging to our skin. 

It is important to find the right balance between getting your vitamin D and protecting yourself from sun damage. Here are a few tips for staying safe, while soaking up the sun… 

 

Sunscreen 

We know, everyone and their mom (literally) has told us all to wear our sunscreen. But, that is just how important it is. Wearing the right sunscreen, the right amount of it and reapplying it are all so crucial for sun protection. It is recommended to use a shot glass (1 oz.) of sunscreen for your body, and between ¼ and ½ tsp. sunscreen for
your face. It sounds like a lot, but most people overlook areas like the tops of their feet, their ears, and the backs
of their legs. 

 


 

Make it Fashion 

Another, often overlooked, piece of the skincare puzzle is that sunscreen isn’t the only form of sun protection. Sunscreen is actually meant to be used alongside other forms of sun protection. SPF clothing, shade, a hat and avoiding direct sun exposure during its peak hours (10 a.m. – 4 p.m.)

 


  

Read the Ingredients

Finally, always… always... read the ingredients. Your skin is your largest organ, what you put on it can really have an impact on your body. Beyond that, the ingredients can effect whether the product is doing  what it should be. You would probably read the labels on your food, and this shouldn’t be any different.
