3 FOODS TO PROTECT YOUR SKIN THIS SUMMER

SUMMER. 😍 There is just a certain excitement surrounding summer that you can’t ignore. Sitting in the sun on a hot summer day scratches an itch that started in childhood.

However, we all know that sitting in the sun without the proper protection is not good for our skin and its long-term health. Surely we are all wearing sunscreen by now, but how else can you protect your skin from those UV rays?

Well, you guessed it- nutrition!

The foods you eat and the nutrients they have can actually be an incredible way to protect and care for your skin from the inside out.

Here are 3 foods that you can incorporate into your diet this summer that can help with protecting your skin from the sun!

Watermelon

This may be *the* food of the summer! So delicious and so nostalgic. It is hard to find someone who didn’t grow up snacking on watermelon by the pool or on their porch. The secret is… none of us knew it then, but it is SO good for you and your skin.

Watermelon is one of the top antioxidant foods, and antioxidants are fantastic for limiting the UV radiation on your body.

It is also high in Vitamin A and Vitamin C. These nutrients have the ability to protect the cells against damage and fight free radical formation.

Vitamin C also helps with collagen production, while Vitamin A maintains the health of your cells and protects against UV damage.

Berries

Berries pack a big punch! Like watermelon, they are high in antioxidants, which are the body’s first line of defense. They are also high in Vitamin C and Vitamin A, which are associated with improving skin properties! Including hydration, less wrinkles and improved elasticity.

Plus, they are SO easy to prep and pack for days at the beach or by the pool. Wash ‘em, and throw them in the cooler to snack on throughout the day. Delicious, refreshing AND have some amazing benefits.

Tomato

Keep this in mind the next time you are snacking on your homemade salsa outside… tomatoes are great for your skin!

This is for a couple of reasons.

1. Vitamin C. It should come as no surprise to you that we are 3 foods deep on this list, and each of them has high levels of Vitamin C. In tomatoes case, Vitamin C lives in the gel surrounding the seeds when you slice a tomato open. Do your best to keep some of that in there when you are cooking, that is where some of the magic is!

2. Tomatoes have an antioxidant in them called lutein. This is what gives tomatoes their vibrant color, and is known for how incredible it is for your eyes. However, it also lives in your skin and provides significant protection against light-induced damage (UV waves).

There are definitely more foods that help protect your skin from sun damage, but this is a great start! Next time you are prepping snacks or planning food to have with you on the go, definitely consider bringing some of these!

If you struggle to eat these foods, and still want to support your skin this summer from the inside out you can always incorporate Reliv Now into your diet! Now has 750 mg (83% of your daily value) of Vitamin A and 480 mg (533% of your daily value) of Vitamin C per serving.

Happy Summer ☀️
